Uncle Sam a drug pusher? It's true. For the past three decades, a handful of Americans have been getting regular deliveries of high-grade marijuana, courtesy of the federal government.
hi Al, just so you do know, I responded to the questions that that you asked of me ... I shall repost them here to ensure that you recieve my response:
hi Al,
I find your comment "We as American people really have been making what I would call extreme modifications to our beliefs and culture in order to accomodate the beliefs of others" very intriguing since, as you said, we Americans made extreme modifications to our beliefs and culture to add those very things you inquire about: our pledge of allegience, currency, schools, etc, to accomodate fundamentalist southern christians. We are not speaking of "undoing" what was at the foundation of this nation, merely correcting those changes that SHOULD NEVER HAVE OCCURED in the first place since it violated our very culture and societal fabric.
I do believe we need to undo the 1957 change to our pledge of alliegence and that it belongs in every public and private school in this nation. It is a patriotic way for all kids to begin the school day off with. Had those bible thumping bigots not pressed so hard to have "under God" added to it, It would never have been an issue.
That is one of the many ways those christian radical zealots have been attempting to undermine and pervert our great nation. It is the national pledge of allegience for a secular Nation that was created by men aware of God, but knowing the very evils organized religion had perpetrated throughout the world over the 1787 years prior to our Constitution. It was NOT composed with "under God" contained in it and that tampering of it's body should have been prohibited under copyright laws. Obviously our Bible thumping christians who changed it must have believed they were above the law.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright
Copyright are exclusive rights granted to the author or creator of an original work, including the right to copy, distribute and adapt the work. Copyright does not protect ideas, only their expression or fixation. In most jurisdictions copyright arises upon fixation and does not need to be registered. Copyright owners have the exclusive statutory right to exercise control over copying and other exploitation of the works for a specific period of time, after which the work is said to enter the public domain. Uses which are covered under limitations and exceptions to copyright, such as fair use, do not require permission from the copyright owner. All other uses require permission and copyright owners can license or permanently transfer or assign their exclusive rights to others.
The same applies to when they began adding "In God We Trust" to the US currency after ther Civil War. That was denied on several occasions prior to the Civil War, but after we won that Civil War, it was added to appease the southern bible thumpers since we had triumphantly beat them down, beginning in the 1860s. Rather than being done with a conscious effert with meaning and the nation behind it, it was slipped in to make a group of civic minded, bible thumping christian women happy. After all, we had just freed the blackman and given him the vote, and women of all colors were still the legal property of a man with no suffrage or rights. In addition, we wholloped the south hard. Appeasement was the basis for that beginning. I have no clue why it was formalizes in Congress in 1957 when I was 2 yrs old. Again, I do not know why the bible thumpers and our government official believed they were above international and domestic copyright infringement laws. We had domestic copyright laws here protecting all those patents that burst forth during the 1800s and 1900s. Again, after getting away with perverting the bible, I guess they thought they could do it to anything.
Prayer should NEVER have been in our who is an American has what many in the world dont - Freedom of Religion. That right provides ample ability to practice a religion WITHOUT stomping our constitution. Schools are NOT houses of worship, but centers of learning. Religion, and how it is followed is a private personal issue done within a nuclear family - society has no place dictating what THEY believe on you and vise versa. If you personally want your child to pray before class everyday, do what so many immigrants do- scrape together the money and send your child to private church-based schools. This country is overfilled with them. Believe, I know. I grew up in parochials schools until college.
All because prayer isnt allowed in public school doesnt mean a parent cant ensure their OWN child prays in school every day - but do it the right way, individually, through your churches in your community. I really dont want to hear "I cant afford it" either since most kids in parochial & church affiliated schools come from blue collar, immigrant and middle class homes. It is a matter of priorities. If they arent yours personally, why the hell should my secular nation make up for your lack or ability to prioritize.
Graveyards are mourning and remembrance places. They are VERY personal sites and if someone has "earned" a spot in one, it should be like the homestead acts during the westward expansion period. You sit on it and claim it, it is your personal property. The care of the and "decorations thereof" should be in the hands of that person's family. To limit it to merely crosses is WRONG, to prohibit it from having crosses is WRONG. That person died defending every american's right to freedoms, including religion, whether through military or government service. Dont limit their after death freedom of religion. That means our bible thumpers, atheists and government - get the hell out of the way. In final respect, they family who loved him/her will decide.
You are barking up the wrong tree here Al, I married a man who is a Civil Engineer whose speciality field is Transportation/Traffic Safety. My youngest daughter is following in his footsteps and my oldest daughter is a Rocket Engineer.
Road side crosses are a hazard, I dont care how far off the side of the road they are. They are not usually very far either since they usually commemorate the spot someone's loved one died. They are a driving distraction. They are sad and just as much a distraction as texting while driving. I do feel for the families of those who have lost loved ones on our road ways. Crosses dont bring them back and they arent actually buried their either. They can actually even be fatally responsible for another parent or spouse feeling a need to add one to that site. We do MANY symbolic things to commemorate our deceased loved ones. Planting a memorial tree or placing a small stone/granite/marble marker are possibile other forms that can be taken to memorialize our dead, with the permission of the land owner of course. (I know if there are 3 fatal accidents in front of my house over the course of a decade, I shall NOT be allowing anyone to make my driveway or front yard look like a graveyard - sorry, your rights end where my rights begin). We do NOT need to be obstinent in demanding only 1 way to commemorate them. To do that is merely selfishly "pissing on our fire hydrants" of righteousness instead of truely honoring our dead.
The very people who were behind adding all those things you claim you love were actually attempting to strip away your rights as an american and replace them with limited rights that they thought you could have without challenging their power through a church or religion.
Freedom of Christian Religions IS NOT Freedom of Religion. To lose this very nation and what it has and does stand for would be losing all we had because we would NO longer have a right to anything else and anyone could come along and usurp anything else we may have been deluded in thinking we had.
